Known to be among the largest in Kenya, Amboseli’s elephants are particularly drawn to the park’s swamps, where they share the cool waters with hippos, who often hide beneath the papyrus. As we drive, your driver-guides will point out the region’s elusive wildlife and share insights into this vibrant ecosystem. Lunch: Enjoy lunch at the lodge. Afternoon: After lunch, take some time to relax and settle into your rooms. Later, meet your Trip Retreat Leader and driver-guides at the hotel reception for your afternoon game drive. Dinner: Served at the lodge’s main restaurant. Evening: Spend the evening at leisure, either relaxing in your room, enjoying a nightcap at the bar, or gathering around the fire with fellow travelers.

Morning: Immerse yourself in A Day in the Life of a Maasai village in Amboseli National Park. With our small group, you’ll have the chance to both observe and engage in daily Maasai life. Renowned for their colorful clothing and detailed beadwork, the Maasai’s attire reflects their age, region, and social status. During our visit, we’ll explore how villagers care for livestock, create natural medicine, and craft ceremonial dress. You’ll get hands-on with activities like milking cows and plastering homes. We’ll also meet the village chief, who oversees community affairs, resolves disputes, and supports his family through livestock sales, while his wives sell handmade beadwork.   After saying goodbye to our hosts, we’ll visit the government-run Amboseli Primary School (or a nearby alternative, depending on schedules). Here, we’ll meet the head teacher to discuss the unique challenges, like elephants wandering onto the grounds due to the school’s proximity to Amboseli National Park. We’ll also interact with some of the 600+ students, joining activities such as singing and practicing English. This is a great chance to connect with the children—you might even bring small gifts like school supplies, pencils, or backpacks.   Lunch: At the lodge.   Afternoon: After some downtime to relax or enjoy camp amenities, we’ll head out on a game drive. Keep an eye out for the graceful gerenuk, with its giraffe-like neck, as well as giraffes, zebras, antelope, and—if we’re lucky—the elusive serval cat. Amboseli is also ideal for spotting “tuskers,” older elephants that escaped 1980s poaching thanks to ongoing research and protection. Bird enthusiasts will enjoy sightings of lilac-breasted rollers, guinea fowl, and soaring hawks and eagles.   Dinner: At the lodge.   Evening: Relax by the campfire with a nightcap or retreat to your room at your leisure.
