Night Game Viewing – Kenya

A safari doesn’t end when the sun sets. As darkness blankets the savannah, the wilderness transforms. The cool night air stirs movement — lions and leopards emerge to hunt, hyenas roam the plains, and smaller nocturnal creatures like civets, bushbabies, and porcupines come to life.

Guided by your expert ranger in a custom 4×4 vehicle, you’ll explore this hidden world illuminated by a soft, filtered spotlight. Eyes gleam in the dark, distant calls echo through the bush, and every shadow hints at the thrill of discovery. Wrapped in a blanket with a warm drink in hand, you’ll feel the quiet intensity of Africa after dark.

Timing & Essentials

Night safaris usually begin between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm and last around two hours. Evenings can be cool, so bring a warm layer, insect repellent, and a camera with low-light capability.

Wildlife Encounters

Expect to witness big cats on the hunt, elephants and rhinos moving silently through the moonlight, and an array of smaller species that rarely appear by day.

Where to Experience It

Night game drives are available in select private conservancies such as Ol Pejeta, Taita Hills, Mara North, Mara Naboisho, and Olare Motorogi. These exclusive areas allow after-dark exploration not permitted in national parks, ensuring an intimate and immersive experience.

Photography Tips

Avoid flash photography—it can disturb wildlife. Instead, use high ISO settings and steady your camera to capture the soft glow of moonlight and starlit silhouettes.

Experience Kenya’s wilderness at its most mysterious—when the rhythms of the night take over, and the safari world reveals its secret side.
