More and more solo travellers are setting their sights on Africa — and for good reason. A safari offers the perfect blend of adventure, serenity, and self-discovery. However, between flights, transfers, activities, and accommodation, a safari can become a significant investment, especially when single supplement fees apply.

Safari accommodations typically price rooms on a “per person sharing” basis, factoring in meals, lodge operations, and staff costs. For solo travellers, some properties add a single supplement—an additional 25% to 75%—to cover the cost of the unused bed. However, many lodges now offer reduced or waived single supplements, especially during quieter seasons.
Most safari tents and rooms are designed for two guests sharing, often with queen or king-sized beds. Single occupancy simply means one traveller uses the room alone. To offset the cost of an “empty bed,” lodges may apply a modest surcharge, though not all do.
Absolutely. Solo safaris have grown in popularity, offering a balance of independence, safety, and connection. Since 2007, we’ve been crafting unforgettable journeys across Africa for single travellers — from exclusive private safaris to sociable small-group adventures.
