Adjoining unfenced Tarangire – a beautiful park, with baobabs in wide open grass plains giving way to lush green swamps, and densely populated with wildlife – and Lake Manyara, often pink tinged with flamingoes, Little Chem Chem is ideally positioned to explore two of Tanzania’s iconic national parks. Equally there is no reason to leave the 16000-ha private concession, with unique aspects such as the beautiful salt pans of Lake Manyara, and views from the shores of freshwater Lake Burunge, where sundowners for Little Chem Chem’s guests are usually served. In fact you don’t even have to leave your tent: wild animals, including lions, can wander right through the camp – an amazing juxtaposition given the level of luxury.
There is a perfect balance between rusticity and luxury in these five large glamping tents, open to the breeze and cooled by fans (no air-conditioning). There is a separate dressing area between the bedroom and the bathroom, showers and toilets are plumbed, shower pressure is good. No in-room minibar or tea/coffee-making facilities but the mess tent is a stroll away, and staff will serve you whatever you need in your tent.
